Superintendent Ann Clark issued an "incredibly bold challenge" to more than 600 attendees at the 2015-2016 Summer Leadership Conference. "There were 5,244 second-graders who were not reading on grade level at the end of the 2014-2015 school year. I am challenging each and all of you to ensure that every third grader in CMS is reading on grade level by the end of the year," said Clark.
North Star Mission Statement
Every third grader below proficiency in reading will be paired with a mentor who is currently employed by CMS or a volunteer from the community. The reading partner will meet with the third grader once a week for a total of 30 one-on-one sessions to work on comprehension skills. With social, emotional, and academic support, these students will reach proficiency by the end of the year and be prepared to enter 4th grade as college and career ready.
